Take a walk for Kindness Week!

February 15, 2026

Did you know that the third week of February is officially designated as Kindness Week across Canada? The Kindness Week Act was passed in 2021 as a way to officially encourage values such as respect, empathy, compassion and gratitude across the country.

But you can celebrate anywhere! As a way to be kind to yourself – Take a Kindness Walk in the Story City App – a free way to be kind to your body and mind.

Story City has created a short list of ways that you can participate in your community that are completely free!

  1. Hold the door open for someone - Paired with a nice smile or even a “have a good day!” this smal; gesture can bring joy to someone’s day

  2. Donate a piece of clothing (or a few) that you’ve been holding onto - we’re not talking about that ratty sweater you’ve had for ten years. Pull a few pieces from your closet that are in good condition but you don't wear anymore - you might just help someone land that job they've been dreaming of.

  3. Leave a note for someone - this can be your parents, your friend, your partner or even a stranger in a coffee shop. Just some unexpected words of kindness, and for some extra fun hide it somewhere where it might take time for them to find. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

  4. Give a stranger a compliment - maybe you like someone’s shoes, or they wear a hair colour you really admire; you should tell them! I promise you they’ve put a lot of thought into how they’ve styled themselves and to know that it was recognized but someone out in the world will make them feel so seen.

These last two aren’t free, but they will only put you out a couple dollars

  1. Buy the coffee for someone in line behind you - you never know who is having a hard day and could use the extra $5

  2. Give a generous tip to someone serving you - I’m not saying you need to give a life-changing amount but even 25% on a sandwich for lunch can go a long way to make your server feel like their work is valued

If you want to participate in Kindness week but need a little guidance or emotional support - we’ve got you covered! Story City has created a Universal Adventure that will take you through five acts of Kindness around your community. Grab a friend or a family member and hit the streets together!

The world can be a cruel and selfish place, especially now with everything that’s going on, but we believe that by putting positive energy out in the world through acts of Kindness, you’re not only guaranteeing kindness will come back to you; you’re also making the world a better place.
